Listing Information:
Opened in early 2009, Dry Mill Vineyards & Winery is snuggled into nine rolling acres, just one mile outside of historic Leesburg, in a stable and barn that was once home to the horses and dogs of the Loudoun Hunt Club. Owners Dean and Nancy Vanhuss with their daughter Michelle Pizzarello have carefully restored the old barn and stables, reusing nearly all of the original wood, keeping the spirit of the stable alive and giving the winery a distinctly rustic feel. Exposed wooden beams, a tin roof, sconces, and a fireplace provide a warm and welcoming character throughout the winery. The original large wooden storm shutters now slide past the winery’s French doors, inviting visitors inside. The outside patio seats up to thirty people for wine tasting and light fare. The old hay loft now hosts a charming event room and two balconies, which overlook the attractive grounds. For Dean Vanhuss, winemaking is a retirement venture after a career in technology. He has been growing grapes in Loudoun County since the late 1990s and currently has six acres planted, most of which are at Short Hill Vineyards, at Dean and Nancy’s home in Lovettsville.
