The non-profit mission of Bluewater Maritime School, Inc. is to provide no cost mariner training to at-risk youth and other economically disadvantaged individuals. Bluewater Maritime School, Inc. was established in 1998 and started by providing training to professional merchant mariners in the maritime industry. Since then the school has provided training services to private individuals, industry, and the military. Bluewater Maritime School, Inc. embarked on their non-profit mission in February 2001. The school is overseen by the United States Coast Guard (USCG). All courses are submitted to the Coast Guard for review to ensure they comply with the regulations and established requirements. Instructor credentials are submitted to the Coast Guard and evaluated to ensure they have the skills, licenses, and other certifications/documents to teach the applicable courses of instruction. Classroom facilities are also approved by the U.S. Coast Guard. Bluewater Maritime School, Inc. is subject to regular and drop-in audits by the Coast Guard to ensure that instructional and instructor requirements are being adhered to by the school. Bluewater Maritime School, Inc. is approved for Veterans training under the Montgomery GI Bill. The school is also approved for veterans rehabilitation training. The Veterans Administration (VA) conducts regular audits to ensure compliance with requirements. Bluewater Maritime School is approved by the state of Florida for vocational rehabilitation training, and as a WorkSource educational facility for the maritime industry.
